The Silver Lady is a completely restored and
polished 1947 Luscombe 8A. Basically she is very much the way she rolled out
of the Luscombe factory in Dallas during December 1947. There have been some
changes however: the engine was rebuilt as a 75 hp instead of the original 65
hp, brakes have been converted to Cleveland hydraulic disk instead of Goodyear
mechanical disk units. She still has no electrical system so the handheld
radio is powered by a ham lead-gel rechargeable power cell. I have owned this
ship for 8 years and fly her approximately 100 - 120 hours a year. In 1995 she
was the EAA Eastern States Grand Champion and was exhibited by the restorer (a
Mr. Michael Kuhn of Penn Ridge, PA). NC1131B is my fifth plane the others
being: Aeronca 7AC (during high school and junior college), Stinson 108-3,
1957 Cessna 172, Piper Dakota, and of course the Luscombe. I am married to my
lovely wife Dale and we moved to Guntersville 4 years ago after my retirement
as an educator in New York State.
